Operations & Development Director - Apply by October 10th

Summary
The Operations and Development Director (ODD) is responsible for overseeing the development, operational, business, and financial management of New City Players (NCP), a professional nonprofit theatre company. Working closely with the Producing Artistic Director, the ODD ensures the day-to-day success of New City Players through stakeholder engagement, sound fiscal management, effective administration, and strategic leadership all while upholding the organization's mission, vision, and values.

$45,000-$52,000

Skills

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. 

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and presentation skills. 

  • Training and/or experience in non-profit arts administration. 

  • Applied understanding of basic fundraising principles and best practices. 

  • Proficiency in database and spreadsheets (Google Suite: docs, sheets, slides). 

  • Basic understanding of non-profit accounting and budgeting. 

  • Adept at the soft skills: teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking, adaptability, time management, leadership, creativity, and emotional intelligence. 

Responsibilities
Fundraising

  • Implement and execute an annual fundraising plan to meet annual goals. 

  • Oversee donor database, gift processing, and donor communications using company CRM. 

  • Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with major donors and sponsors.  

  • Manage and write grants and grant reports in collaboration with grant writers.

Box Office Management

  • Manage NCP’s ticketing system and subscriber base, consistently communicating with patrons about tickets etc. 

  • Manage the Box Office phone number and email, ensuring a smooth patron ticketing experience from purchase to check in. 

Financial Management

  • Partner with the Producing Artistic Director to create and manage the organization's annual budget. 

  • Oversee cash flow, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.

  • Bookkeeping using Quickbooks. 

Operations & Business Management

  • Administer contracts, payroll, and payments to employees, subcontractors, and vendors in compliance with labor laws. 

  • Maintain accurate records, policies and institutional knowledge. 

  • Oversee front-of-house, box office systems and audience services. 

  • Liaise with Actors Equity Association (AEA). 

  • Maintain all annual business subscriptions, registrations, filings, accounts, mailboxes, and policies. 

Institutional Leadership

  • Be available for relationship building with major stakeholders which includes connecting stakeholders to relevant projects and soliciting funds. 

  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization’s purpose through speaking engagements, public/social appearances, and fundraising events/solicitation meetings. 

  • Report to the Board of Directors on financial matters and fundraising goals. 

  • Ensure adherence to best practices in nonprofit theatre management, equity policies, and ensemble virtues. 

  • Foster a positive, equitable and inclusive work culture.

Qualifications

  • Passion for NCP's focus on creating community, developing an ensemble, and telling transformative stories. 

  • 3+ years experience in nonprofit management, arts administration, or related field.

  • Proven success in fundraising, financial management, and operations leadership or an eagerness to participate in professional development in areas where experience is lacking. 

  • Excellent project management, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. 

  • Ability to motivate, inspire and work collaboratively with staff, Board, and artists. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to diverse, equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist artistic practices. 

  • Advanced degree in nonprofit management or arts management a plus. 

  • Familiarity with South Florida theatre landscape a plus.
